Endoscopy Services

Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in men and women. This is extremely unfortunate since colorectal cancer is very often a preventable disease when appropriate screening is performed. In addition, screening results in the detection of already present cancers at an earlier and more curable stage.

It is recommended that everyone, male and female, undergo a colonoscopy at age 50. Under certain circumstances, patients should have a screening earlier. Individuals with a family history of colon cancer or polyps, for instance, should be screened earlier. Choosing MCMH allows you the ability to undergo screening and treatment close to your loved ones.

Preventive Care for Cancer

MCMH Endoscopy program can diagnose and treat a wide range of gastrointestinal conditions. The goal of this unit is to increase awareness and screening for colon cancer in the region. Dr. Douglas will see patients upon referral of the patient’s family care provider. A full range of educational services, diagnostics and therapeutic gastrointestinal endoscopic services are offered:

  • Upper endoscopy (EGD)
  • Sigmoidoscopy
  • Colonoscopy
  • Esophageal dilation
  • Polyp removal, biopsies, follow-up and referral
  • Anesthesia services are provided
  • General surgery if necessary is referred to Dr. Douglas’ practice in Tallahassee or the patient’s specialist of choice
